The newest project by Wim Vandekeybus and the Ultima Vez company comes to Prague only a few days after its world premiere in Venice. For booty Looting Vandekeybus chose a group of six performers, one musician and one photographer. They all steal from each other what already has been stolen.
A magician invented a mirror with a memory. I looked in it and I remembered my own birth. My mothers dress. The hospital room. A sequence of frozen moments. Ice on a beard. Flames through the trees. Two drunks holding each other up. A dirty doll, lying in the street. A brand new Mercedes – Benz, never driven. A vodka bottle, passed in the firelight.
A photograph kills the present and freezes the past. Memories take root in these frozen moments and grow. A couple gets married and poses for the camera. A guy reckons he can remember his own birth and is beaten up bad. A dead child sits upright in its mother’s arms. A father holds his son’s hand. Both try to walk. Bodies move and sweat drips while inside the frame nothing changes.
The performances are presented during the Dance Prague Festival as part of the Flemish Season 2012 at the Archa Theatre.
