The Small Inventory Festival: WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY

The Small Inventory Festival: WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY

25/2/2010 22:00 - The Archa Theatre's multimedia project returns in a shortened version! Window of Opportunity combines a theatrical form with a real debate. The evening also includes the presence of students from universities and high schools right on the stage. The performance is always a premiere and a finale at the same time!

“Window of opportunity” is a term used by NASA to describe the complex constellation of conditions during which a rocket can be launched into space. In everyday speech, it means a chance which ought to be used, because it may only occur again after a long time. Did we take advantage of our window of opportunity in 1989?

The documentary theatre project directed by Jana Svobodová takes the form of a fictitious live broadcast on RADIO 89 FM. The “broadcast” also incorporates the dramatic comics Kurt and Květa. This stylized performance deals with basic human questions: freedom, betrayal, the feeling of guilt and of being abandoned. The moderator of the evening, the writer Jaroslav Rudiš, freely enters into the story of the Czech-German couple and thus creates space for the invited students, who take on the role of observers and active participants in the events. The performance also features video appearances by President Václava Havel.

After its premiere at the Archa Theatre the project was presented at the Nitra International Theatre Festival. In November 2009 it was staged at the Czech National Building in New York. Each performance is both an original premiere and finale.

Like last year, also participating in the project will be university and high school students, who see their parents’ actions from the perspective of people already born in a free society. The students are also co-creators and actors in the theatrical form.

"WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY is one of the most unique events I have ever been associated with. The spontaneity of the evening was thrilling. It was part town hall meeting and part performance spectacle and yet the two halves were integrated in the most satisfying manner. It made a big impression on me and I was grateful to be a part of it. Congratulations on the great responses you have received."
