STIMUL FESTIVAL PRESENTS: WOLF EYES /USA/

STIMUL FESTIVAL PRESENTS: WOLF EYES /USA/

20/5/2010 20:00 - The forefathers as well as the biggest stars on the contemporary noise scene coming to Prague. Alongside industrial noises and distorted guitar they also bring the sound of free jazz saxophone. One thing is clear: noise was never so much fun.

The Stimul Festival continues to map contemporary noise underground: on May 20 the American trio Wolf Eyes will perform at the Archa Theatre. The forefathers as well as the biggest stars on the contemporary noise scene will perform in Prague for the first time ever. Alongside industrial noises and distorted guitar they also bring the sound of free jazz saxophone. One thing is clear: noise was never so much fun.

Wolf Eyes (USA)
Wolf Eyes was created in 1996 originally as a project by Nate Young of the Nautica Almanac band. Aaron Dilloway joined two years later and John Olson in 2000. Mike Connelly of Hair Police replaced Dilloway midway through the decade, whose swansong was the famous album Human Animal released in 2006 under the Sub Pop label. The album is considered the summit of contemporary noise wave and despite its stubborn inaccessibility has been included in many surveys of the best albums of the last decade.

Wolf Eyes have released around a hundred recordings, which are distributed by Sub Pop and the famous noise labels No Fun or Hospital. They also have dozens of cassettes and CD-Rs, which are sold in limited editions at their concerts. The discography of Wolf Eyes is hard to categorize simply as punk, not even considering that each member of the band has several other side projects.

But the central activity of Wolf Eyes is the main concerts, which are characterized by explosive, raw energy. It was the dutifully toured small clubs which made them a cult band and to which they address all of their important contemporary noise underground projects. In their concerts, noise is transformed into an innovative genre coming out of DIY aesthetic hardcore punk as well as industrial. The result is fantastic music/non-music that knows no borders.
