STIMUL FESTIVAL PRESENTS: VENETIAN SNARES /CAN/, RADIAN /AT/
15/5/2010 20:00 - The most aggressive mutation of contemporary dance underground comes to the Archa Theatre to present the most occupied man – Canadian titan of the breakcore scene Venetian Snares. By contrast, the Austrian minimalist Radian will open with abstract electronic music.
Venetian Snares (CAN)
Aaron Funk, alias Venetian Snares, has been active on the scene since the early 1990s, when he released his first recordings – in those days only on cassettes and under his own label. The names of the first official albums, like Eat Shit And Die or Fuck Canada//Fuck America, illustrate well his uncompromising aggressive style, which was created out of a perverse mutation of ragga jungle. Although rhythmically he is a bomber, Venetian Snares is connected primarily with the breakcore scene, and transcends the border of its genre ghetto. An excellent example is the original album Rossz csillag alatt született of 2005, in which breakcore loops and samples are successfully combined with classical music. Thus in the middle of beat pummelling the compositions of Bela Bartok or Igor Stravinsky can be heard. His next albums, like Doll Doll Doll and The Chocolate Wheel Chair, have also taken highly original and unexpected directions for breakcore in the new millennium.Venetian Snares releases its albums on many small labels, though its name is connected mainly with Planet Mu, where its latest album was Filth released. The master of kinetic beats, lover of extreme noises and cats comes to Prague for the first time ever. Audiences at the Stimul Festival will have a unique chance to try out the sharp taste of the contemporary club avant-garde!

Radian (AT)
The Vienna trio Radian are considered innovators in the field of abstract electro-acoustic music mainly thanks to their sophisticated balance between experimental approaches and attractive rhythmic passages, so-called intelligent dance music or IDM. Drummer Martin Brandlmayr, who also plays the vibraphone and programs the sampler and sequencer, guitarist Stefan Németh who also plays the synthesizer and bass guitarist John Norman can be compared to the semi-acoustic Finnish noise band Pan Sonic. Like them Radian incorporates abstract expression, but at the same time finds a way back to basal, here and there almost primitive rhythms, and is one of the few to courageously defended its existence in this type of music. Mathematically precise percussion structures are combined with micro-samples, minimalist passages alternating with ingenious noise samples. Their music also features cursory links to ambient, jazz and of course experimental electronica. Their music is clever and catchy and without exaggeration can be identified as the pop of the future. At the Prague concert, Radian will present its new and so far best album, Chimeric, released under the American label Thrill Jockey, which is leading them to perfect its strange poetic. The album is significantly louder than the previous one. We have a lot to look forward to.LINKS:
