Yann Tiersen: “DUST LANE” EUROPEAN TOUR 2010
10/5/2010 20:00 - The voice of Amelie from Montmartre returns to Prague May 10. Yann Tiersen: “Forget about Amelie! The new album is different from anything that I did before!” Prague International Bulenight no.79 presented by LIVER MUSIC.
Composer, multi-instrumentalist and singer Yann Tiersen attracted the international recognition mainly thanks to his soundtrack for the film Amelie from Montmartre which was a huge hit not only in France but in this country too. He also created the music for the film Good Bye Lenin. His film melodies may be melancholy, but Tiersen’s live performances return to his punk rock roots and are full of energy.
Tiersen’s 2007 concert at the Archa Theatre was sold weeks ahead of time. Now Tiersen is back. He will perform on May 10 in Prague as part of his European tour in order to present his new album Dust Lane, set for release in September 2010.
During his Amelie period Tiersen focussed on musical poetics, but the new album Dust Lane is much harder. The music comprises many more genres, mainly rock, and uses more rock and guitar riffs.
“Dust Lane is more electric and electronic and vocals now play an even more important role,” said Tiersen. “The new album is different from anything that I’ve done before.”
Tiersen's music is based on repeated key motifs which often alternate between two main instruments, the accordion and piano accompanied by a xylophone, harmonica or orchestra. In his new programme, however, Tiersen set aside the accordion and piano. Gone are the insistent melodies and frantic French waltzes. The image of a lonely, solitary multi-instrumentalist was already too constrictive for Tiersen. His main instrument is once again the electric guitar and a brand-new band. Tiersen has loved rock ever since he was growing up in the age of Nick Cave and Joy Division. His new work is a lot more oriented around rock. Nevertheless, he has not forgotten his recent experiences and his previous recordings. Tiersen preserves the characteristic elements of his work and that which has made him famous: expressive musical qualities and unforgettable tunes. In concert he is aided by electrical sounds and fantastic tension, as we remember from his most recent successful Prague concert.
He will also be accompanied by the French-Biritish band of Stephane Bouvier (bass guitar), Christine Ott (Ondes Martenod), Matt Elliott (guitar) (Third Eye Fondation), Dave Collingwood (drums) & Robin Allender (guitar) (Gravenhurst).
