Ms. Slam Poetry

Ms. Slam Poetry

1/12/2008 20:00 - An international non-competitive exhibition by well-known European female slammers. Featuring: Lydia Daher, Pauline Fueg (Germany), Veronika Lewandovská (Poland), Bori Rutkai (Hungary), Mieze Medusa (Austria), Vanessa (Czech Republic). Hosted by: Jaromír Konečný (Germany). Guests: the Krása men’s choir (CZ)

LYDIA DAHER (Germany)
Hello, I’m Lydia Daher. Thanks for the hit. Maybe I can pay you back somehow... I’ve got some things that I thought up myself. Almost all myself. And from myself. And why not? Nobody has to perform anything here. But they can. They can nod their heads or shrug their shoulders. Or only one shoulder, back and forth, as you like. It’s a free country. And I’ve got a short temper, so you’ve got to watch out. Really it’s better not to say anything. Or even better: only say the right things. Or the best: tell the truth. And then say bye-bye, because I need my space. Lots of space. Otherwise I don’t get any ideas. That’s nice, thanks. See you soon. In Prague.

PAULINE FUEG (Germany)
Großraumdichten is the name of a project that consists of poet Pauline Füeg and Tobias Heyel and composer Ludwig Berger. The trio presents a performance made up of the spoken word and live electronica. The project began with Pauline Füeg and Tobias Heyel, who have been performing their programme for about five years on German stages at various Slam-Poetry competitions, as well as at literary festivals. Their texts deal with everyday events, dressed in a lyrical garment. Pauline and Tobias have qualified every year since 2005 for the German national Slam Poetry competition. Since 2007 their team has also included the multi-instrumentalist Ludwig Berger, who has brought the sounds of electronic music to the project, most often in trip-hop, electro-folk and ambient-minimalist genres. Sicne 2007 the trio has also worked with Radient (www.radient.de) light installations. In Prague they will perform with Ludwig Berger.

WERONIKA (Poland)
Plan.kton feat. (audio+visual+spoken word) The audio-visual project Plan.kton feat is made up of Błażej Górnicki and Kordian Piwowarski. Their original take on music and visuals is the distinct dialogue between technology and nature. Oak and electronic sounds coexist with pictures in a dynamic synthesis. The multi-expressive project also features Weronika Lewandowska, who is well-known on the local slam and spoken word scenes. Her feminine texts are full of resounding multiple meanings, whose fragility mixes with strength, created together with music and visualizations of electric forms, the “contemporary intermediary language”. She will perform with others at the Slam Jam Session at the “Roma” Theatre, in the underground BallhausOst Theatre at the Illustrative festival in Berlin. We will see her in Prague and Brno. www.myspace.com/planktonechosis

BORI RUTKAI (Hungary)
Bori sings with the group SPECKO JEDNO. Her songs declaim against the stereotypes of love poetry and love songs. Her repertoire includes songs of the type moral–rock, sacret–march, death–romance, hihot-tango, declarative-funky, failet-hits, party-metal, fairy tale-punk, delirium disco, metaphysical-children’s tunes, fitness ballads, etc. That is, everything that’s important! She also regularly and successfully participates in Hungarian slam poetry competitions. In 2007 she won the Slam poetry competition in Budapest. Bori: “At Ms. Slam poetry I’m performing with the support of two members of my band: Zsombor Dudas on the drums and Daniel Szereto, bass guitar. We all have dark hair and brown eyes. By ready for an amazing experience!” You can check it out in Prague and Brno.

Today he focuses on writing and performance, on stories of his antihero – a luckless fellow, the butt of jokes and sudden reversals. His texts also feature excerpts from individual Czechs about life in Germany. Konečny’s excellent stage performances have delighted slam poetry lovers for many years. He has won more than 60 slam poetry competitions and was twice named the German slam champion. A number of his texts have been published in book form, with so far eight titles released in Germany.
