Palissimo Company: The Painted Bird / Bastard

7/2/2012 20:00
The performance by New York choreographer Pavel Zuštiak was presented at the Akcent Festival and met with great success. At the request of the audience it now returns to Archa for two evenings. The inspiration for the solo show Bastard was the controversial novel The Painted Bird from 1956 by Jerzy Kosiński. In one of the chapters of the novel, the protagonist meets a man who paints a bird while in a rage and returns it to the nest. The painted bird is considered to be an intruder and is pecked to death by the others. Bastard talks about the feelings of a person whom the world considers to be an interloper. He is alone. He comes from another culture and he creates his own small world in a new setting. At one moment, ordinary people enter this world. Concept and choreography: Pavel Zuštiak. Dancer and co-author: Jaro Vinařský. Music composed and performed by: Christian Frederickson. Tickets: CZK 290/190. Length: 70 minutes. …

HaDivadlo: World in Danger

19/2/2012 20:00
Jiří Havelka’s production is born out of a collaboration in 2007 that resulted in a variation on the theory of relativity called Indian in Danger. In addition to the Mayan calendar, which predicts the end of the world in 2012, the motifs for the production with the working title World in Danger include several theories of contemporary physics, mainly the uncertainty assailing us from all sides, in particular from the media. The constant assurances of crises, recessions and chaos, which presumably are inevitable and indeed symbolically reinforced in numerous apocalyptic visions, naturally create in us the need not to underestimate our preparations for the end of the world. We should be ready! The main thing is survival! Meanwhile we forget, of course, that these are all just predictions. The obsession with planning for possible future scenarios takes us away from the present. But we do not live later. We live now. Tickets: CZK 290/190. Length: 70 minutes. …
